In the hypothesis of absence of surface currents on the plane (assuming that none of the two media is perfect conductor), the boundary conditions require the continuity of the tangential components of both the electric and the magnetic fields and thus it is possible to determine the electromagnetic field of the two unknown waves (the reflected and the transmitted ones) .
